For the last years, since the pandemic took place, all the world has been experiencing deep changes in healthcare services. Homecare workers had to face strong challenges that made them more exposed to physical and mental exhaustion because of the difficulties in attending to their patients and meeting their real needs. They were asked a permanent mental effort to cope with their patients and the families and they also had to ensure proper support to family caregivers.
Observing the pressures that social and health care personnel, especially home care workers, are under, the idea came about to create a toolkit through this project with the aim of tackling one of the most daunting challenges: the burnout of health care workers.
The toolkit is a digital handbook of good practices, recommendations and new skills for better standards of welfare and tools to increase the training of home care workers.
Its overall objective is to guarantee a quality service by providing home care workers with tools that enable their wellbeing and preserve their balance, with a related impact on the wellbeing of the organisations and communities they serve.
The toolkit is addressed in general to all health professionals working in different contexts, but it is designed with a specific focus on professionals working in home care services, in particular those involved in the care of people with disabilities and other vulnerabilities. These professionals are constantly exposed to situations of high pressure and to the risk of work-related stress which can lead to burnout; hence, they need appropriate tools to manage daily challenges and maintain a balance between professional and personal life.
