In the framework of the Erasmus+ project EAR- Forming active European Citizens through the Dialectical Method and Theatre that we coordinate, Action Synergy is inviting you to participate in a free online seminar for teachers. The main aim of the seminar is to empower teachers to use a combination of theatre techniques and Socratic dialectics in order to approach social issues inside their classroom.

The course is addressed mainly to teachers of secondary education. However, it is possible for teachers of the last classes of the elementary school or adult educators to participate too.

Participation in the course is without any cost and a certification of attendance is going to be provided only after a pilot implementation of these methods together with the learners of your class. The positions are limited and strict order of priority is going to be observed.

The course is organised in English and it is open to teachers from all over the world. It is going to include 4 synchronous sessions and some tasks to be organised in an asynchronous way online. These sessions are going to be organised in the following dates: 15, 19, 22 and 26 April, 16:30- 19:00 CET

A few words about the method

Interest in social issues and critical thinking needs to be developed in every school subject. The EAR project proposes a method that examines social issues by promoting on the one hand students’ empathy and experiential experience (through theater) and on the other hand critical thinking and rational argumentation (through Socratic Dialectics). These techniques are also combined with literary texts, excerpts from films, and other intellectual works that are the starting point for the examination of any social issue.

Indicative issues that can be addressed with this method are Democracy, Power, Truth and Objectivity, Violence, Privacy, Immigration, Fear, Rights, Equality, Gender, Freedom of Expression, etc.

In the seminar, examples from the European experience will be presented and workshops for creating educational scenarios will be conducted which the participants can apply in their classrooms
