The project NIREAS is a transnational project that has been implemented from 2011 to 2013 and has contributed to the improvement of education and training in the field of wastewater treatment.
NIREAS project has achieved its objectives by offering:
– complete and quality e-learning contents for the operators of the wastewater treatment plants.
– a methodology that will help the accreditation of competencies acquired through non formal and informal learning.
The project has focused mainly on the small and medium wastewater treatment plants which are often operated by personnel that do not have the necessary skills. However, the training programme can be used by the operators in many wastewater treatment plants.
The e-learning contents and the accreditation tool have facilitated the development and transparency of skills of the Wastewater Management workforce, fact which could allow the employment of better qualified people and, thus, it would improve management strategies of water resources and sustainable water use.
The project was funded by the Lifelong Learning Programme (Leonardo da Vinci – Transfer of Innovation), it has started in 2011 and was completed in 2013. It was implemented by a consortium of 8 partners in 5 countries: Greece, Cyprus, Spain, Portugal and Romania. It was promoted by the Municipal Water and Sewerage Company of Larissa (DEYAL).
