Action Synergy is the partner of Google and ISD for the implementation of the initiative “Young Digital Leaders” in Greece.
Young Digital Leaders is a Europe-wide pilot project, sponsored by Google, that aims to empower young people through digital citizenship, critical thinking and media literacy skills, beyond the classroom, so that they can grow up safe, responsible digital leaders.
The program also provides educators and parents with resources to better understand and face the challenges caused by young people’s increasing interaction with the media and other people online.
The curriculum consists of five 1 hour sessions, to be taught in their entirety as part of the Young Digital Leaders programme. They can be adapted as needed by practitioners and are a fun, innovative and engaging way to help young people learn about digital citizenship. The sessions are the following:
Session One- Critical Consumers: Students will be able to identify and positively respond to fake news, ‘closed groups’ and filter bubbles.
Session Two- Resilient Citizens: Students will be able to understand what prejudiced content is in order to challenge stereotypes and positively contribute to the online space.
Session Three- Effective Communicators: Students will be able to understand how to communicate effectively online with a range of audiences, and recognise the impact of language and tone used.
Session Four- Rights Experts: Students will be able to understand their rights as citizens online.
Session Five- Digital Leaders: Students will be able to understand how to positively exercise their right to free speech and promote their voice to affect positive change online.
In the framework of the project, ISD has developed a Curriculum, a teacher’s guide and a parent’s guide which have been adapted by Action Synergy to fit in the Greek context. These guides are also available in Greek (Πρόγραμμα Σπουδών, Οδηγός για Εκπαιδευτικούς, Οδηγός για Γονείς). The Impact Report evidences the main conclusions from the project implementation. A specific report has been developed in order to measure the impact in Greece. On the basis of the conclusions of the implementation of the activities, a toolkit has been developed in order to be used by other educators that aim to develop Digital Literacy projects.
For the year 2019, the project was implemented in 3 countries. In Greece by Action Synergy, in Romania by the Group for the European Youth for Change (GEYC) and in Bulgaria by Youth and Civil Initiatives in the Rose Valley
